We have made sound progress on the Numeracy Portal where we have been learning the meaning and process of numbers. During our Accelerated Literacy program, different texts were studied. The students particularly enjoyed the novel Holes. Students who were generally good readers are becoming more skilled in comprehension. Our regular nutritional and cooking program is popular with the students. The senior students are particularly helpful in showing the younger ones how to work in the kitchen. We have made many dishes from vegetarian to meat inclusive, sweets, and learned three different ways to make pizza. Back to Country: We have had the opportunity to work with community members, Elders, agencies and other campuses of the College to learn more about culture through visits to Country. A day trip to Angas Downs with a Steiner school was a wonderful day. Everyone helped to prepare ground for planting, cook up a feast of kangaroo tail, damper and billy tea, and learn more about each other. The overnight camp at Umbiara allowed us to experience country special to Mutitjulu Anangu. Interstate trips: Two of the senior students attended the Gold Coast trip, a literacy-orientated festival, and two deserving students were invited on the Melbourne rewards trip. Both of these events very successful and were full of meeting new people, learning and fun. Linking with Imanpa Primary School:Over the year we have helped the local primary students with their reading, working in small groups and alternating visits between the College and the Primary School. We joined with them for a mini-Olympics sports fun day with a variety of activities using different skills so all could participate. After school activity: At varying times I have opened the College to the young men who love to come in to write, compose music, sing and record their own songs using Garage Band. It continues to be a pleasure working in Imanpa. I would like to thank the local agencies, community members, Primary School, College students, their parents and families, and my Nyangatjatjara College colleagues for their input and friendliness throughout the year. And along with the students, I am still learning. Rosa DellaTorre
